Our History

Few people realize that foxhunting has its awakening in America about the same time that it did in England.  As the sport developed, it became a favorite pastime of several USA presidents, senators, congressmen and Supreme Court justices.

Riding to hounds has been present in Western Pennsylvania as far back as the 1770's and has been a consistent part of Ligonier, Pennsylvania history. In 1921 a pack of English bred fox hounds was brought to the United States under the watchful eye of Master-huntsman, Richard K. Mellon, Esq. and a tradition was born.
